Havlíčkova Borová

The Borova village has been probably founded in 12th century. 19th century was the time of weaving big boom in this village. In 1817 Matej Havlicek came to Borova, who established a merchants’ craft there and whom the second son, Karel, was born in 31st of October. Karel Havlicek Borovsky, a writer, a journalist, and a politician, was lately known as one of the most important persons of Czech national revival. The Gothic church of St. Vit ranks among significant architectural monuments. Its spire is 637 metres high above the sea level and is a visible view point from afar of this part of Bohemian-Moravian Highlands (Ceskomoravska vrchovina). Nowadays there is a museum of Karel Havlicek Borovsky opened to public as well as the birth house. In that house you can find there an exposition of life and work of this known native. The relief has been uncloaked in 1862 during the first Havlicek’s festival.
